February 18, 1943 - April 6, 2022
It is with profound sadness that the family of Kenneth Raymond Smith announces his passing on April 6, 2022, at the Olds Hospital at the age of 79 years old.
Ken will be deeply missed by his wife of 59 years and best friend, Elaine Smith; their children Sharon Brilz (Ian), Donna Taniguchi (Rick) and Jim Smith (Tracy); eight grandchildren: Tyler, Chris, Nathan, Curtis, Travis, Jasmyn, Josh and Siraia and three great grandchildren Bodie, Aliyah and Rylee; his sister Shirley Dixon and many nieces and nephews.
Ken was predeceased by his parents, Ernest and Josie Smith; his brother Grant and his sister Dorothy.
After meeting the love of his life Elaine, they started their family and moved to the Olds area where Ken began working in the oilfield for Fudd’s Construction, owned by Elmer and Ruby Bruneski. Eventually they started their own business - K & B Oilfield Construction and Maintenance, which they ran for several years.
In later years, after downsizing the company, Ken worked operating wells in the west Olds area and continued to raise cattle and alpacas.
Ken and Elaine really enjoyed spending time around the fire with friends at their lot in Bergen Springs.
In 2018, Ken and Elaine bought a house and retired in Olds, where they resided until his passing.
The family would like to express their gratitude to Dr. Duong and the staff at the Olds Hospital for the care and patience that Ken received throughout his stay.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, April 22, 2022 at the Olds Legion at 1:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alberta Cancer Foundation.
