Karen Jean Sorenson was born on January 19, 1944, in Calgary, Alberta to Eugene and Hanna Scherlie, and passed away on July 6, 2022, in Olds, Alberta at the age of 78 years.
Karen was predeceased by her husband, Wayne Sorenson; her parents, Eugene and Hanna Scherlie and sister Gail Scherlie.
She leaves to mourn her brother Brian (Donna) Scherlie, adopted sisters, Diane Karlowich and Desiree Robertson; nephew, Lester (Jenn) Sorenson; nieces, Laureen (Scott) Martin and Michelle Soley.
Karen attended school at Brule, Lakedell and Falun, and graduated from the Wetaskiwin Composite High School. She married Wayne Sorenson in 1969, and they started their lives together in Olds, followed by moves to Edmonton and Wetaskiwin before returning to Olds. Karen’s career was in banking, starting her career working at Toronto Dominion Bank, and finishing it at Scotia Bank. Her banking career spanned 50 years.
Karen loved her four legged friends, dogs and cats were very much a part of her family. She was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion and was an active member of Crime Watch in Olds. She was also an avid reader, a passion that began at age 5.
A memorial service will be held on Sunday, July 17, 2022, at 1:00 p.m. at Baker Funeral Chapel (5302 50 Avenue, Wetaskiwin, Alberta), with interment to follow at the Wetaskiwin Memorial Cemetery (4701 63 Avenue, Wetaskiwin, Alberta). A luncheon will be held following interment at the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 86 (5003 52 Ave, Wetaskiwin, Alberta).
