LESLIE HAROLD SUPERNANT

August 26, 1958- March 6, 2021

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Leslie Harold Supernant (Soup). Les passed away on Saturday, March 6, 2021 in Olds, Alberta at the age of 62 after a courageous battle with cancer.

Les is survived by his Mother, Yvette Supernant, loving wife Joanne, daughters Taren (Kyle), Tasha (Freddie) and grandchildren Annica, Bella, Carter, Dakota and Levi. Sisters Darlene, Val (Richard), Brothers Martin (Bonnie), and Wayne as well as numerous, aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.

Les was predeceased by his Father, Vern Mailhot, Brothers, Dennis and Ernie, Sister, Audrey.

Les was born in High Prairie, Alberta on August 26, 1958. Les had seven siblings. At age of 2 Les moved to Sundre, Alberta. In 1974 they moved to Olds, where Les graduated High School in 1977. In High School Les was a naturally talented athlete that excelled in many sports. These athletic abilities took him far in his hockey career. Les was drafted by the LA Kings and played pro hockey for the Sacramento Rebels in California. Les was also an accomplished bull rider and bull fighter who shared his many skills and love for these sports with many family and friends through mentoring and coaching. Following in the footsteps of his uncles, Les began his career in the Oil and Gas industry. He completed his Journeyman B-pressure Welding through SAIT in Calgary, and he apprenticed under Bob Delong. He worked over 45 years in the Oil and Gas industry for many different companies and built a strong rapport for himself. Up until Les’s passing he was a Pipeline Inspector for Trans Canada Pipelines.

Les couldn’t go ANYWHERE without running into an old friend or familiar face. It always started with a smile and a hand shake and familiar greeting of “how’s your dink for wrinkles and belly for spots?”- this of course led to a cold one and a trip down memory lane- Les would always have time for a chance to reminisce about old times and of course this led to the odd run away and singing “Old Blue Car” and playing the spoons.

Les, a true outdoorsman, loved camping out west of Sundre, rodeos and fishing. Les was always up for a good round of competitive golf- he always said there were “no friends on the golf course” until the “BEER” hole was won. Les was passionate about his native culture and crafts- he shared his wisdom with his family to carry on the traditions.

Les and Joanne travelled to some wonderful places and had some unforgettable stories to share. He had a fear of flying and his fear was not unfounded as he watched a tornado rip across the runway on the way to New Orleans. He got to see the King: Elvis Presley’s home, they took road trips to Alaska, twice, enjoyed sunny Mexico and took many trips out west.

Les cherished the time with his grandchildren and the lessons and love of life that they learned from their Mammo will forever be in their hearts.

Les left his mark everywhere he travelled and worked. He was always ready to lend a helping hand whenever needed. He will be remembered by his straightforward and honest character, and that damn loud whistle. He will be dearly missed by many but will live on forever in our hearts and stories.

Cheers- Have a cold one for Les!

A memorial service to celebrate Les’s life will be held at a later date. Details will be shared at that time.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Olds and District Hospice Society, 4920- 50th Avenue
