October 16, 1943 – November 13, 2023
After a long hard fought battle with multiple myeloma, Robert (Bob) Stanley Towns, went to his eternal home on Monday, November 13, 2023.
He was born in Castor, AB, on October 16, 1943, to Stanley Russel Towns and Helen Sylvia Wyse. He grew up in Flatbush, AB, where he fell in love with the game of baseball, and became a Dodgers fan. Bob loved sports! When his dad went to work on the DEW line, the family moved to Edmonton, where he attended Victoria Composite High School, played football, played piano in a band called the Flamingos, and began his illustrious retail career at Zellers.
Salesmanship, his natural charm, and people skills were just a few of Bob’s talents. He met his first wife Joanne Lacrosse, while he was working for Zellers. They married in January 28, 1967, and were blessed with three children, Terence, and identical twins Charmaine and Michelle.
In the 70’s Bob landed a huge job, and became the manager of Super S Drugs with over 400 employees in Calgary. When the store sold, he didn’t care for the direction the new management was heading, so he took his severance, savings, and moved to Lacombe. He opened up a toy and clothing store called Weepels. Unfortunately he lost his shirt. This is what lead him to Eagle Hill, where he became the manager for over 30 years for the Eagle Hill Co-op.
Bob accepted God’s gift of salvation in 1997, at Bow Valley Christian Church. He fell in love with Jesus and loved to study the word of God, which is the Holy Bible. He took a leadership disciple course with Village Missions and completed a degree in Biblical Studies at Liberty University. Bob was so passionate about telling others about the free gift of forgiveness of sin and was always quick to testify what Jesus had done for him. He was bold and fearless in his convictions and he held nothing back. He joined Garrington Community Church where he served in many capacities as worship leader, elder, board chairman, and drummer to name a few. Whatever outreaches that were organized he always took part.
When Joanne passed away in January 2000, Bob decided rather than sit at home alone he would reach out to singles in the community. He started the ‘Stray Cat Club”, where he organized various monthly events. It was here he met his next life partner, Anita Cook (nee Jensen). They married December 2000.
After retiring from Eagle Hill Co-op, Bob and Anita spent some time travelling to France, Quebec, Dominican Republic, the Maritimes and many more places.
He adored spending time with his family and friends. He always remarked on how much he loved Eagle Hill. He was a prayer warrior and his passing has left a huge hole in the fabric of his family and community.
He will be missed and is lovingly remembered by his wife, Anita; his children, Terence, Charmaine, and Michelle; his step-sons, Jason and Adam Cook (Cassy Jurome); and his seven grandchildren, and 2 great grandchildren.
A service was held at Eagle Hill Memorial Community Centre, on Saturday, November 18, 2023.
