1934 – 2023
Peter Unrau passed away peacefully with his family at his side on September 25 at the age of 89.
Peter was predeceased by his wife Jean in 2021, and will be lovingly remembered by his 3 daughters
Pat (Dennis) Luft, Susan (Richard) Fleurant, and Beverley Greysson; his sisters Annie Metcalfe, Tina Last and Alice Murray; his grandchildren Rachelle (Greg), Jessica (Daniel), Calvin and Jasper; and 6 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents John & Mary Unrau, his brothers John and Jake, and sister Mary Janzen.
Dad was born in Manitoba where he met and married Jean and with the growing family, gradually moved west before retiring in Alberta after many years on the job from Xerox.
Dad was caring, taught us a lot of lessons, and had a sense of humor. He was active through his years always volunteering and helping others. He loved curling and was a fair-weather golfer. Since moving to Carstairs he served as a counselor with the Town of Carstairs, managed the local Seniors Housing manors, a board member with the Half Century and the Carstairs Golf Course, and held various positions with his condominium association.
We would like to thank the tireless staff at the Red Deer and Didsbury Hospitals for caring for him.
A private gathering will be held in Carstairs at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial tributes may be made directly to the Alberta Cancer Society or to Heart and Lung research.
