October 30, 1925 - March 6, 2022

It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Dad, Grandfather and Great-Grandfather, Adolph Wolkoski of Didsbury, Alberta.  He passed away peacefully at the Olds hospital on March 6, 2022 at the age of 96 years.

He was born at Viscount, Saskatchewan on October 30, 1925.  He was predeceased by his beloved wife Julia (Judy) and infant son Glenn; his father Michel and his mother Rosalie; his brothers John, Henry, Wally, Chester and sister Pauline.

He is survived and lovingly remembered by his daughter Lori-Ann Walker; grandchildren Stephanie and MacKenzie (Justine) Southgate; great-grandchildren Johnathan and Maxon.  He is also survived by his brother Lou (Norma); sisters Teresa and Susan; sister-in-law Dorothy and brother-in law William(Bill) as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

He was married at Yorkton, Saskatchewan in 1950 to the love of his life Judy, with whom he shared 38 wonderful years before her passing in 1988.  He was a happy, loving, generous family man and a good friend to all who knew him.  His grandchildren were the light of his life and he spent many hours teaching them to golf, fish, throw a baseball, shoot a puck, build snowmen in the back yard, and plant a vegetable garden.  Every winter, there was an ice rink in the backyard with a hockey net.  He was so proud of his grandchildren and their accomplishments and took an active role in helping them achieve their goals.  He enjoyed the company of all his nieces, nephews and cousins and never missed sending a birthday or anniversary card, often with a poem and usually a bit of humour.  He loved all animals and was a keen bird watcher, particularly in the spring time.

Adolph began his career with the Canadian Pacific Railway at Hardisty, AB in 1943 then on to Foam Lake, Sheho, and Yorkton, Saskatchewan before being transferred to the Canadian Freight Association in Winnipeg in 1957 as a freight inspector.  He transferred to Regina in 1963 until 1981 before being transferred back to Winnipeg again to serve as manager of inspections until his retirement in 1986.

His railroad career was interrupted from 1944 to 1946 when he volunteered to serve in the Royal Canadian Corps of Signals, a division of the North West Air Command during WW II.  He joined the Canadian Legion in 1949 and was a member of the Olds Branch #105 until his passing.

Over the years, Adolph was an avid sports enthusiast and played all games with zest and confidence.  He particularly enjoyed golf and was a long-time member of the Didsbury Golf Club.  He was proud of his medals won in the Alberta Seniors Games in golf and curling and volunteered at the Didsbury Visitor Centre for several years.  He enjoyed a good cross word puzzle with his friends at the Mount View Lodge where he has resided for the last 7 years.  His wonderful sense of humour will be sadly missed by all who knew him.

A funeral service was held on Saturday, March 12, 2022 at 1pm at the Zion Evangelical Missionary Church in Didsbury, Alberta.  Flowers gratefully declined.  He often said, consider the kindnesses extended to family and friends as your memorial to him.  Heartland Funeral Services Ltd., Olds entrusted with arrangements. 403-507-8610   Condolences may be made or viewed at www.heartlandfuneralservices.com
