June 8, 1948 - May 2, 2022
We are saddened to announce the passing of our eldest sister, Kay, on May 2, 2022.
She was born on June 8, 1948 at Calgary General Hospital to parents Don and Gwen Wood. With time, the Wood family grew to include Glenda (Calgary), Laurie (deceased), Melanie (Didsbury) and Cameron (Didsbury). During her growing up years in Didsbury, Kay was very active in church and community choirs, Brownies and Girl Guides and school basketball. She developed a spectator passion for professional hockey and baseball which she enjoyed all her life.
Kay was employed in the health care field for 45 years — at Calgary General Hospital in junior pediatrics, at Foothills Hospital in the radiology teaching area (a job she always said was made just for her) and finally at Didsbury Hospital as a medical transcriptionist. During those many years, Kay made some very special lifelong friendships.
In 1991, Kay married Fred Klein and together they enjoyed nearly 30 very happy and adventurous years, travelling and visiting family and friends. Kay was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2002 which later manifested itself as bone cancer in 2015. In 2016, Fred was diagnosed with lymphoma and Kay became his primary caregiver. He passed away in 2021.
Kay will be remembered for her total devotion to her husband, parents, sisters and brother. She was the glue that bonded us and she is missed beyond belief. Our hearts ache.
