1962 - 2021
Mrs. Velvet Ruby Wood of Innisfail, Alberta passed away at Red Deer, Alberta on October 11, 2021 at the age of 59 years.
Velvet was born and raised in Calgary, Alberta and lived there until she turned eighteen and moved to the United States, where she lived for seven years. She came back to Calgary to work at the Harry Hayes Building as a payroll clerk. In 1989, Velvet met Gordon through a mutual family friend. They married in February of 1991 and had Vanessa in June of the same year, Chance, Dallas and Willow completed the woodpile.
Velvet was very involved in all things that concerned her children from 4-H to drill team, school activities and field trips. She never missed an opportunity to spend time with one of the kids. Everyone who met her knew her as “Mom”, she was caring to everyone she met. Working on the family farm and helping Gordon with his business were passions of Velvets, whether it was making field suppers or being in the tractor herself, she was always elbows deep.
She will be greatly missed by her entire family, including the lives she touched along the way. Velvet will be lovingly remembered by her husband Gordon, her son Chance (Chelsea) of Bowden, her son, Dallas (Scarlette-Rose) of Innisfail, her two daughters, Vanessa (Josh) of Innisfail and Willow of Innisfail, her two grandchildren as well as a brother, Ron Schafer of Calgary, Alberta and a sister Holly Schafer of Palm Coast, Florida.
