1934 - 2023
Margaret Anna was born to Mervin and Blanche Stanton on a wintery Saturday, February 10, 1934, at Bassano, Alberta. Blanche rode horseback to the hospital, as the snow was so deep. Margaret was the ninth of thirteen children (in order): Ruth, Ben (Benjamin), Chet (Chester), Rachelle, Wes (Wesley), Mary, Martha, Esther, Margaret, Harold, Bob (Robert), Willard, and Lloyd.
She is survived by her brother Bob (Robert).
“Marg” married Frederick Luft at Didsbury, Alberta, June 22, 1951. They had 8 children on the family farm; Diana Marie (John MacEachern), Deborah Lee (Gerald Kenney, deceased), Kathryn Ann (Don McNeil), Laurie Lynnette (Ron Wik), Susan Gay, Sherri Lorraine (Randy Lewis), Robert Frederick, Donna Mae (Dale Gartner).
She is pre-deceased by her husband Frederick (May 9, 1975), son Robert (May 18, 1987), and daughter Susan (July 24, 2008).
She continued to raise her family on the family dairy farm west of Didsbury until 1987. Marg married Neil Edward Youngs August 27, 1988, at Didsbury, Alberta, when they sold the dairy operation but continued farming until retirement in 2005. Marg and Neil moved to Olds in July 2021 and had been married 34 years at Margaret’s passing Saturday June 17, 2023. She passed peacefully and gracefully in the Olds hospital after her long battle with cancer.
Margaret is survived by her husband Neil, 6 daughters and their families, 18 Grandchildren, and 19 Great Grandchildren. Grandma Youngs will be loved and missed by us all.
