Mountainview Science and Technology Science Fair president Ruth Roedler says ever since the COVID-19 pandemic, participation in the fair has been down, “but it’s starting to come back.”

She’s hoping most of the kids who’ve qualified to move on to the Central Alberta Regional Science Fair will do so.

“We really stressed it on Saturday afternoon. Please, if you possibly can, go on,” she said during an interview with the Albertan.

Roedler said in past years, some of the kids involved in the fair were “objectionable.”

But that wasn’t the case this year.

“I’ve got to say this past weekend we didn’t have any objectional kids or anything. It was just a real pleasure,” she said.

“I had one of the judges say to me -- it was the first time he judged -- and he said to me, ‘you know, after listening to these kids, I have hope.’

“He was very impressed with the kids, so that made me feel good too.”
