OLDS — Town council has agreed to defer $585,000 worth of capital projects.

One proposed purchase of land has been removed from the budget while the budget for another has been cut by $150,000 to $50,000.

Upgrades to the fire training facility have been deferred to the 2021 budget. Also deferred to 2021 are planned upgrades to playgrounds and proposed ball diamond fencing, and backstop and netting. Improvements to the Aquatic Centre have been cut by $25,000 to $75,000.

Finance director Sheena Linderman unveiled the proposed deferrals during council’s April 27 meeting.

She also listed several projects that could be put on hold, at least temporarily.

They are:

• renovation of the RCMP offices and construction of an RCMP garage

• a proposed 68th Street industrial arterial access road

• extension of 48th Avenue

• a wayfinding project (signs directing people to various places)

• relining the tank in the north reservoir

• a sanitary relining program

• a municipal improvement program
