Another person has been added to the list of those participating in the MNP Canada Games Torch Relay in Olds on Jan. 31.

She is curler Jocelyn Peterman of Winnipeg, winner of the 2016 Alberta Scotties Tournament of Hearts championship and the 2016 national Scotties Tournament of Hearts.

Town community facilitator Jennifer Lutz says Peterman has "connections to Olds and Central Alberta," including some family members in Olds.

Peterman joins seven local torchbearers: Mayor Michael Muzychka; well-known local bottle collector Jon Ahlgrim; Olympic wrestler Danielle Lappage; Robert McBeath, brother of the late local hockey and lacrosse player Ryan McBeath; Special Olympics athlete Mark Mengersen; former NHL hockey player Jay Rosehill; and former Olds College president Tom Thompson.

Two other politicians will also be carrying the torch. They are Olds-Didsbury-Three Hills MLA Nathan Cooper and Red Deer-Mountain View MP Earl Dreeshen.

The 2019 Canada Winter Games take place Feb. 15-March 3 in Red Deer.

The relay begins in Olds at 4 p.m. at the Sportsplex.

Latest plans call for the route to go east from the Sportsplex toward Uptowne Olds, north on  50th Avenue to Shannon Drive, along Shannon Drive to 57th Avenue, then along 57th Avenue to 52nd Street and east on 52nd Street back to the Sportsplex.

Each torchbearer's segment is in the 500- to 800-metre range. Torchbearers can choose to run or jog the route.

Plans call for the torch to arrive back at the Sportsplex at about 5 p.m., at which time a torch relay ceremony is scheduled to occur.

Sports day events, which are planned in conjunction with the arrival and departure of the torch, begin at 8 a.m. in the Fitness Centre in the Community Learning Campus and continue at the Aquatic Centre, Gymnastics Club and the Sportsplex.

They wind up with the Olds College Broncos female hockey game at the Sportsplex, which begins at 7 p.m. Organizers say admission is free.
