OLDS — Revenues from this year’s local Tim Hortons Camp Day sales were down almost $800 from last year.

However, Todd Jacobs, who co-owns five Tims restaurants in Olds, Sundre, Didsbury and Innisfail, calls that “pretty successful,” because it was an unusual campaign this year with a lot of different factors.

During Camp Day, held Aug. 12, Tim Hortons restaurants donated 100 per cent of sales from coffee to their camps which give kids from low-income homes a chance to experience summer camp.

This year for the first time, that included sales of iced coffee as well as hot coffee.

In addition, those who donated $2 could receive a bracelet.

This year, Camp Day proceeds also went toward supporting the first-ever virtual Tims eCamps, which began in July and run for eight weeks. They provide virtual programing for youth across North America.

Camp Day has been held for 40 years now across Canada.

This year, Camp Day at the five Tim Hortons restaurants in the area raised a total of $20,222 from coffee and bracelet sales as well as community donations and general fundraising efforts.

Jacobs says that’s down about $790 from last year.

But he still considers that to be a success, given the fact that the COVID-19 pandemic impacted everything.

“We weren’t really sure how successful it would be this year, so now seeing the results, we need to give a huge thanks to everyone in our communities and our great teams who helped make Camp Day 2020 a success,” he wrote in an email.
