A 24-year-old man who was born in Olds and played with the Olds Grizzlys from 2007 to 2010 is one of two suspects charged with arson in relation to grass fires lit south of Longview on May 1.
Marc Pierre Boulanger, 24, who is now a Sundre resident, and Dale Christopher Aldrich, 21, also of Sundre, have each been charged with four counts of arson in relation to five fires that were lit on the west side of Highway 22.
Police said the grass fires ignited as a result of fireworks being discharged from a vehicle.
Both men appeared before a justice of the peace on May 1 and bail was set at $5,000.
They are scheduled to appear in Turner Valley provincial court on June 3.
Police said the fires were under control or extinguished by 4 p.m. on May 1.
Boulanger played as a goaltender with the Grizzlys before playing with the University of Massachusetts from 2010 to 2012.
