Ask church staff for full views on issues

In response to “Religious Conference Went Too Far” and “LGBTQ Community Members Take A Stand,” printed in the Nov.

In response to “Religious Conference Went Too Far” and “LGBTQ Community Members Take A Stand,” printed in the Nov. 1 edition of the Olds Albertan, we would like to acknowledge that the topics covered at the Unveiling the Truth conference are controversial and that people on both sides of these issues hold deep and heartfelt convictions.

Yet while it is certainly true that we hold a different view on homosexuality and LGBTQ issues than others in the community, a full and proper understanding of the presentations would have shown that, despite the differences, the local evangelical Christian community loves and cares for all segments of the community – indeed, we are happy and blessed to call everyone our neighbours.

In fact, the open invitation event was designed to help people better understand and relate to the differing world views we come across day to day.

Open Q & A opportunities were provided so that clarification could be gained on any issues of concern by those in attendance.

We would encourage anyone who would like clarification on what the host churches actually believe and practise to drop by New Hope Church or Olds First Baptist Church and speak with a member of the pastoral staffs.

Respectfully signed,

Pastor Tim Bowen of New Hope Church, Olds

Pastor Greg Stirling and Pastor Andy Moffat of Olds First Baptist Church
