OLDS — The Town of Olds received 211 complaints via its online Report-A-Problem (RAP) system last year, down sharply from 2023 when 550 such reports were received, chief administrative officer Brent Williams says.

“The decrease seems mostly related to snow clearing and rainfall events, as 2023 saw more precipitation than 2024,” Williams wrote in an email to the Albertan.

He said last month, 17 issues were reported via the RAP function, up from 15 during December, 2023.

The RAP stats were contained during Williams’ CAO report, presented during town council’s Jan. 13 meeting.

He noted that staff also received phone calls which were entered manually into the system.

“With the holidays and the relatively calm weather, the only larger complaints (in December 2024) were roads and parks, which all concerned icy conditions, which is not that surprising for the time of year,” Williams said. “Everything was actioned accordingly.”

A pie chart provided as part of the report showed that four complaints each were recorded in the road issues and parks -- general inquiries/complaints categories.

Two complaints were received regarding parking lot maintenance and others.

One complaint each was received under the general maintenance, parks and trails, Sportsplex, sidewalk damage/degredation, and back alleys categories.

Council voted to receive Williams’ report as information.

“The Report a Problem function remains the most efficient way for residents to report issues, as the system automatically sends submissions to the relevant department for actioning,” Williams wrote in his email.
