BOWDEN -- Sewer as well as and water meter testing rates are rising in the town as of April 1.

Town council passed a bylaw setting out the new rates during its Feb. 25 meeting.

Interim chief administrative officer Jacqui Molyneux says although the new rates take effect April 1, residents will see them in the next billing cycle, which is actually printed on April 9.

Sewer rates will rise to $3.10 per cubic metre (cu.m) from the current rate of $3 per cu. m. The basic service charge will double to $10 from $5.

In addition, the water meter testing and inspection deposit will double to $400. This deposit is only refunded if the meter is found to be faulty.

Utility rates for the Town of Bowden were discussed during the 2019 budget meeting.
