Cannabis facts

The Cannabis Act came into force on Oct. 17, this year. The Cannabis Act allows adults over the age of 18 in Alberta (19 in most provinces and territories) to possess or distribute up to the equivalent of 30 grams of dried cannabis in public.

The federal government plans to allow sales of edible products containing cannabis in 2019.

The possession, production and distribution of cannabis for medical purposes has been legal since 1999, if the person in question has a valid licence from Health Canada.
