OLDS - The cause of a Monday evening fire in a machinery dealership's outside compound in town is under investigation.

The Olds Fire Department was disptached at about 10:20 p.m. on Nov. 2 to a reported vehicle fire at Future Ag at 4338 50 Ave. in Olds.

Upon arrival, the department reports crews found a fully-engulfed tractor burning in the secured compound area of the dealership that was spreading to an adjacent seed drill, a news releases issued yesterday (Nov. 3) stated.

Due to the hazard of exploding tires upon arrival, firefighters knocked down the flames with a truck-mounted water stream before moving in with hand lines to fully extinguish the flames.

"Several loud bangs were heard in the area, when tires on the seed drill exploded from excessive heat," the release states.

The department says the fire was kept from entering the main shop and resulted in minor damage to the exterior of the building.

Twelve firefighters responded with two engines and a command unit to contain the fire. There were no injuries as a result of the fire, the department reports.

The Olds Fire Department thanked a nearby resident who initiated the 911 call alerting it to the fire.
