A fire in the Olds Sundial Growers facility remains under investigation.

However, fire Chief Justin Andrew says the cause of the Dec. 10 blaze is "not deemed to be suspicious in nature."

The Olds Fire Department is working with Global Forensics Inc. to investigate the incident.

Andrew says that company is working with the fire department to determine the cause of the blaze and to assist firefighters and Sundial to calculate the amount of loss sustained.

"A damage estimate has not been completed as of yet but the structure was not compromised and damage was limited to contents," Andrew wrote in an email to the Albertan.

Firefighters were called to the scene in the southeast industrial park (just west of the cemetery) at 10:54 a.m. Dec. 10.

Fifteen firefighters responded with two engines, a ladder truck and support vehicles, along with an engine from Didsbury. An ambulance was on-scene as well.

Fire crews found a “working contents fire” in one of the business’s production areas, a news release said.

The fire was contained to the room where it started.

“Damage was extensive due to extreme heat,” the release said. “Fire crews were able to extinguish the fire quickly when access was made, and extensive salvage and overhaul activities were conducted.”

There were no reported injuries of any workers or firefighters.

Sundial CEO Torsten Kuenzlen told the Albertan that everyone made it out safely.

Claire Buffone-Blair, Sundial's director of communications and stakeholder relations, said the company is awaiting the final report in order to find out the cause of the blaze.

"Following the incident, we made the business decision to cull plants in the rooms that were affected, as Sundial takes a 'no compromise' approach to quality," she wrote.
