Central Alberta employers are hiring again

The economy in Central Alberta seems to be turning around; employers are hiring again, according to Nicole Lorrain, a workforce consultant with Alberta Labour.

Lorrain made that observation during an Olds & District Chamber of Commerce luncheon Wednesday.

She was asked if her office is getting any interest from employers looking to hire workers.

"You know, I would say that we're getting a lot more calls from employers asking us for help with recruitment," she said.

"So that to me is a good sign, where a year ago, it might have been more phone calls around ëcan you help us figure out how to navigate the layoff process or how we can avoid a layoff?'

"I'm not getting those calls so much anymore. Now it's people who are coming to the job fairs, wanting to know if there are job fairs and really, ëcan you post our ads? We're looking for this.' So a lot more of that, for sure."

Lorrain also said the jobs those employers have are for full-time workers, not part-time employees.

"Everything that I have posted since probably mid-December is all full-time employment," she said.
