Champions crowned, uncrowned during Olds wrestling event

Bulldog's Saloon in Olds was packed for OldsAMania, presented by CanAm Wrestling

OLDS — Bulldogs Saloon was packed Saturday, Jan. 18 for the OldsAMania professional wrestling competition.

Mayor Judy Dahl and her husband watched most of the entertainment from ringside seats.

The main event, described as an unsanctioned bar room fight, saw Andy Anderson, the “God of Thunder,” beat local favourite Logan James -- literally -- with a stick and with the help of some thumbtacks which ended up in James' back during the fight. James says a year-and-half-long feud led to the match.

As the announcer warned, it spilled out from the ring to the surrounding crowd in the rest of the bar.

Anderson pinned James after “not one, not two, but three powerbombs on tacks for the win,” Otto Gentile, one of the owners of CanAm Wrestling said.

Gentile said that match was more than a year in the making.

In the CanAm World Heritage Heavyweight Championship, “The Last Gladiator” Scorpious beat “The Prospector” Wes Barker.

The “Handsome Devils,” Handsome Cam Hanson and Deven Devlin remain the only unbeaten team in CanAm Wrestling after they beat “Cheetahbear" Jude Dawkins and his partner for the night "The Craziness" Daniel Mayhem in a number 1 contenders’ match.

Mayhem was partnered with Dawkins because Travis Cole was not medically cleared to fight again after suffering a concussion the night before in Innisfail.

"Mr.Beefy Goodness" Vance Nevada became The New Chaos Champion during the Community Chaos Championship Match.

But not for long.

Referee Oscar Henry, 14, was crowned the youngest champion in CanAm history.

But that too didn’t last long.

In the end, "Unhinged" Skyler Gray won the Chaos Championship for a second time by pinning Henry.

Also, "Big Business" Sydney Steele beat Bobby Sharp.

In his Olds debut, Hayden Avery, “the Destroyer,” got the pinfall on Shaun Martens.

Three People’s Choice awards were handed out.

Scorpious was named most improved wrestler of the year.

Nevada was chosen CanAm’s most hated superstar of the year and Anderson was declared CanAm’s superstar of the year.
