OLDS — Some changes have been made to operations at the Olds Aquatic Centre in the wake of the latest pandemic restrictions, community services director Doug Wagstaff says.

For example, he said staff had been getting ready to provide group lessons, but that’s now been put on hold.

“That’s had to be put off further down into the future until some changes are announced and that will be allowable,” Wagstaff said. “We hadn’t implemented it yet but we were gearing up for it.”

Another change applies to those in the pool.

Previously, groups such as families were able to share the pool, remaining in quadrants within it. Now if they want to utilize it, the entire pool has to be rented.

Coun. Heather Ryan asked if as a result, families or groups have a limited time to rent the facility so that more can have that opportunity.

“The time slot is still the same time slot," Wagstaff said.

However, he noted the Aquatic Centre is now open on Sundays to provide residents with more opportunity utilize the pool.

“We want them to have that time that they can go in there and enjoy the pool, but there will only be single families at a time versus where we were able to quadrant them in the pool previously,” Wagstaff said.

Town officials said no changes have been made to operations at the Sportsplex.
