Charges laid in Fortis yard break-in

Two men were due back in Didsbury provincial court March 4 in connection with a break-in to the FortisAlberta yard in Olds. Both men are Calgary residents. Calvin Hawryluk, 39, is charged with breaking and entering and possession of stolen property.

Calvin Hawryluk, 39, is charged with breaking and entering and possession of stolen property.

Peter James Dawson, 43, is charged with breaking and entering, possession of stolen property, resisting arrest and flight from police, having an uninsured motor vehicle on the highway and having an unregistered vehicle on the highway.

Hawryuk was released by a justice of the peace on a $3,000 no-deposit recognizance with the following  conditions: he is to have no contact with his co-accused and is banned from Olds.

Dawson  was brought before a justice of the peace and remanded into custody to await his March 4 court appearance.

At about 3:30 a.m. on Feb. 21, a witness contacted Olds RCMP saying a break-in was occurring at the FortisAlberta yard, located on 49th Avenue.

“The witness saw a suspicious vehicle near the property, then witnessed two males cut through the fence and enter into the Fortis yard,” an RCMP news release says.

“Olds RCMP responded immediately and arrested a male suspect exiting the yard.

“RCMP Police Dog Services responded to assist in tracking the second suspect who fled on foot from police, and was apprehended about two hours later near Olds College.”

Police say they found copper wire as well as a stolen licence plate at the suspect vehicle.
