Olds RCMP say charges are pending against the driver of a vehicle involved in a spectacular crash that occurred at the intersection of 57th Avenue and 46th Street (Highway 27) on Monday, Sept. 4.

The force of the collision, which occurred at about 12:50 p.m., was so great that one vehicle was flipped on its roof.

Cpl. Michael Black says according to what police can determine, a black Ford Explorer was southbound on 57th Avenue when it was hit by a Chevy Montana van westbound on Highway 27.

Police say it appears the Montana ran a red light, resulting in the collision.

"The lone male driver of the Montana fled on foot," immediately after the collision, Black says. "He fled south on 57th Avenue, shedding his clothes in the process."

Reports say by the time he was caught by RCMP at 57th Avenue and 54th Street, he was basically naked.

Charges are pending against the driver of the Montana, a 38-year-old Didsbury man.

A 26-year-old man driving the Explorer suffered minor injuries. He had a dog with him but it's not clear if the dog was injured. The Montana driver was also injured. Both men were taken to hospital.

Black says the name of the Montana driver can't be released yet, pending completion of paperwork on the matter.
