CP Rail tower being built in Olds

Tower will support new signal system

OLDS — Construction has begun on a radio tower along CP Rail’s right-of-way in Olds.

The tower, located in the south end of town, between the railway and 49th Ave., is 160 feet tall.

Its purpose is to support a centralized traffic control signal system.

A CP Rail spokesman says it’s uncertain when the project will be completed.

As part of the project, plans also called for CP Rail to install new signal masts along the tracks between Airdrie and a siding north of Olds. The signal masts look like traffic lights.
