An Olds businessman says in a couple of days, he and friends have sold at least $2,000 worth of decals/bumper stickers, with the money going to support people impacted by the Fort McMurray wildfires.

“We've been pumping out decals like crazy,” Eagle Signs owner Robb Lussier says.

They're going for $10 apiece.

The decal says “I am a supporter of #albertastrong Proud to be an Albertan.”

“We're sitting at somewhere around two grand raised in two days – a day-and-a-half,” Lussier said Friday, May 6.

He said Olds College alone has ordered 100 of them.

Lussier said it all began when someone in Sundre tagged him looking for someone to design a decal in support of residents affected by those fires.

“It started from there, and a buddy of mine from Wild Rose Glass there in Sundre, Jerod, he lives in Olds and he himself has already raised $1,500 of that,” Lussier saio. “And it's just been growing. I've probably got about 600 decals out there, so if they all go, that's $6,000.”

He noted the figure could go higher still, because the federal government says it will match donations for Fort McMurray area support dollar for dollar, which would turn that $6,000 into $12,000.

“I've got 50 that were actually ordered that are being mailed off to Newfoundland today,” Lussier said.

He said the idea really hit home for him because he has several friends who used to live in Olds and later moved to Fort McMurray.

Lussier is confident the demand for the decals will continue to grow.

“I've got clients, companies that have been begging for them,” he said.

He said about 300 were distributed to businesses in Didsbury in time for the Didsbury Show 'n' Shine. People in Sundre are selling them as well.

“Any businesses in town that want to sell them I'll give them to them,” he said.

Lussier said friends have asked him to redesign the decals so they can fit on motorbikes too.

“The decal we have is three inches by 14, a little big for a motorbike,” he said with a laugh.

“All the money will come back here and we're going to have a list of all the businesses that have helped raise the money. We're just going to put it in a letter and it'll all go through together,” Lussier said.
