After realizing how many extra Christmas decorations they have from downsizing their home, Marg and John Geisler decided to spearhead a project to help brighten the holidays for residents of High River and the Siksika Nation affected by the floods in June.

The couple are calling for anyone with any Christmas decorations they no longer use or can afford to give up to donate them to the project.

“It's going to be a tough Christmas for these people. They've lost everything,” Marg said. “We're sharing a little piece of Christmas with them.”

Decorations can be dropped off at the Olds United Church at 4810 50 St. from 9 a.m. to noon, Tuesday to Friday, and from 1 to 4 p.m. on Friday, until noon on Dec. 3.

Rev. Tammy Allan of the Olds United Church and Rev. John Lentz of St. Paul's Lutheran Church are arranging for the donations to be delivered to High River and the Siksika Nation and the Olds Ministerial Association has agreed to publicize the donation drive in its bulletins.

Students at local schools and members of local service clubs are also collecting donations for the project, Marg said.
