The Ramada Olds hotel raised $600 for a local charity last week, capitalizing on Monday's rare eclipse to host a waffle brunch fundraiser.

The hotel's manager, Erin Wallace, said that when she took over last year, getting locally involved was on her priority list.

"We haven't done a lot of community involvement in the past four years, so I really wanted to hit it hard this year," she said.

She began with a charity that was close to her heart: the Boys & Girls Club of Olds & Area, the beneficiary of the eclipse fundraiser.

"My dad used them … because he was a single father, and they just made it really easy for him to have a full-time job and be able to have child care," she said. "I just wanted to pay them back."

In continuing the efforts, Wallace said the Ramada will be hosting a barbecue fundraiser for the Olds Grizzlys on Sept. 22, to kick off their regular season.
