OLDS — Investigators are probing the cause of a fire that engulfed a mobile home in the middle of the night on April 30.
The Olds Fire Department got the call at about 1:15 a.m. Fourteen firefighters in four vehicles responded to the blaze at 5103 61st Avenue.
The lone occupant of the home made it out and was transported to hospital for undisclosed injuries as a result of the fire. No firefighters were injured.
“Fire crews arrived to find a mobile home with a fully involved fire that was self-venting from the back of the structure,” a fire department news release says.
“Firefighters utilized a defensive attack focusing on eliminating fire spread to neighbouring homes before switching to an offensive strategy to extinguish the initial fire.”
It took about four hours to contain the fire and secure the site.
Fire officials pegged damage at approximately $100,000. The home was declared a total loss.
“Radiant heat exposure caused damage to the siding of two neighbouring homes, but no further damage occurred,” the release said.
“Olds Fire Department appreciates the assistance of (Alberta Health Services) EMS (Emergency Medical services) and Olds RCMP to be on standby at any fire scene, and provide services to occupants or firefighters when needed.”
