The …cole Olds Elementary School (EOES) Choir came out on top after this year's Olds & District Kiwanis Music Festival, and while they aren't headed to the provincial championships themselves, their music is.

The choir was selected as the Best Elementary School Choir in the Grades 1 to 3 category, which qualifies the group to be represented at the Alberta Music Festival Association's provincial festival being held May 28 ñ June 2 in Edmonton.

For the youngest age categories, however, the groups do not actually perform at the provincial level. Instead, the recordings from their local festivals are sent for adjudication. This year, eight schools across Alberta were recommended for the provincial level.

ìIt's a pretty honourable thing to get there,î said Lois Munchinsky, who has been directing the EOES choir for 12 years.

The choir has 40 singers from grades 3 and 4, and is open to any student who wants to participate. They practise once a week throughout the year. In addition to performing in the Kiwanis festival, they also perform annually at the high school graduation.

The choir's submission will be adjudicated at the provincial festival on May 29. First- and second-place finishers will be noted.
