OLDS — 52nd Street has been reopened to traffic for roughly a week now, but the work there isn’t finished, says Brent Williams the town’s chief administrative officer.
Williams told town council during a recent meeting that there’s still work to be done to finish up the approximately $2.5 million project which was undertaken this summer and fall along three blocks west from 50th Avenue.
That remaining work includes installation of the last sections of sidewalk between 50th and 51st avenues, laying down a second layer of asphalt along all three blocks, and undertaking landscaping, including relaying sod, he said.
That work is expected to be undertaken in the spring.
The project was initially expected to be completed by the end of September, but the street wasn’t opened until mid-November.
The project, undertaken by Ruby Rock Asphalt Works Ltd., involved replacing underground sewer and water lines believed to be 70 to 80 years old as well as installing new sidewalks, curb and gutter, and then repaving the street.
