Garbage was spread out over a portion of 65th Avenue, just outside the Olds Fire Hall as firefighters battled a fire in a garbage truck on Wednesday (Sept. 27).

Firefighters say the cause of the blaze has not been determined. There were no injuries.

"They're also urging residents and business not to throw away anything that "may be hot or have the ability to cause the garbage to ignite."

Firefighters were called to the fire at about 4 p.m. Sept. 27.

Nine firefighters managed to eventually put out the fire with water and firefighting foam.

"Garbage was ejected onto the street in order to extinguish the fire and to protect the vehicle from damage," a Fire Dept. news release says.

"Precautions were taken to isolate the storm water system. Water was collected with a vacuum truck."

The Fire Department says damage to the garbage truck was "extensive but limited to the rear garbage containment area of the vehicle."

Town employees helped clean up the garbage that had been dumped on the street.

"The Town of Olds Fire Department would like to remind residentsand business owners to be mindful of placing any items in the garbage that may be hot or have the ability to cause the garbage to ignite."FIRE DEPARTMENT NEWS RELEASE
