Halloween night was very quiet in Olds, according to RCMP and fire officials.

Police were only called to seven incidents between 6 p.m. and 6 a.m., Olds RCMP commanding officer Staff Sgt. Jim MacDonald says. Of those calls, only two were related to Halloween activities.

The first involved allegations posted on Facebook of children stealing candy from other children.

"A mother called the police as she was upset about a Facebook post in which someone named her child as possibly stealing candy from other children," MacDonald says.
"As there was no offence committed by the person who made the post, the complainant was advised that police could take no action against the accuser."

The second incident involved an intoxicated person dressed up as a hotdog who was passed out on a lawn at Olds College.

"The wiener was assessed by EMS (ambulance personnel), grilled by police and then taken home by a sober friend," MacDonald says.

"It was a relatively quiet night and members spent much of the evening patrolling and handing out treats to the trick-or-treaters," he says.

Halloween night was also quiet for the Olds Fire Department, according to fire Chief Justin Andrew.

The department did not receive any calls for service that night.

Firefighters did continue their tradition of patrolling the street to ensure the safety of trick-or-treaters.

"We had two fire trucks out in the community with eight personnel who volunteered their time to be a safe presence for kids in the various areas of town," Andrew says.

"They were spreading the word about safe trick-or-treating practices and handing out some goodies to those who came by to say 'hi.'"
