Holy Trinity students donate to food bank

Students at Holy Trinity School dropped off a donation of 318 pounds of food on Dec. 21 to the Mountain View Food Bank.

The donation was made after the 47 students at the school concluded four to five weeks of events in which items were collected, including at the school's Christmas concert on Dec. 20.

Blake Krause, the school's principal, said the impetus for the food drive was students from the student council wanting to make a community contribution shortly after the Thanksgiving holiday.

“Obviously as a Catholic school, social justice is important to us and so this was shortly after Thanksgiving and into November (students) decided they wanted to make a food bank drive so they organized a . . . series of special days at the school so the kids could participate by bringing a food bank donation,” he said.

The drive wrapped up on Dec. 20 with Holy Trinity's Christmas program. The food was delivered the next day to the food bank.

“All the kids really got on board . . . and we had quite a large donation,” Krause said.

Pat Graham, a director with the MVFB, said the organization was thrilled with the donation.

“They did a wonderful job,” she said.
