Dr. Dick Wray was honoured Sept. 29 with the Kiwanis Achievement Award for 60 years of service. He received the award during the Kiwanis president's dinner, held at the Olds Legion. He was inducted in 1956, a year after the Olds club began.

He was inducted in 1956, a year after the Olds club began. Despite being a busy young physician new to town, Dr. Wray made time to give back as a volunteer.
He was instrumental in launching the Olds Drug Alert Program -- designed to educate youngsters on the dangers of drug use. The project took him across Canada and resulted in Dr. Wray and the club earning a national award.
Dr. Wray has participated in many Kiwanis projects including: apple sales, Kiwanis tent, fairs, auctions, meals-on-wheels, book distribution to seniors, 4-H speak-offs, skate-a-thons, playgrounds and seniors' home funding.
He managed to squeeze in a busy medical practice that included house calls and 2 a.m. deliveries. He's raised a family, continues to paint, hunt, serve on other boards and committees, and perform magic. He's used magic to turn tears into smiles in thousands of young patients he has seen during his 50-plus-year career.
Dr. Wray has served two terms as president: 1971 and 2012. The active Kiwanian inducted four new members into the club Sept. 29. He reminded us how fellowship and community service offer balance to a busy life.
