OLDS — It’s been a busy time lately for Olds RCMP, as they’ve dealt with an increasing number of impaired drivers, licence plate and catalytic convertor thefts.
In a news release, Cst. Morley Statchuk said in the past week, Olds RCMP laid five impaired driving charges against drivers in the community.
“RCMP would like to remind residents that after consuming alcohol drivers could face fines, licence suspensions, vehicle seizures and potential criminal charges,” the release said.
“RCMP encourage everyone to make a plan prior to an outing that may involve alcohol consumption.
“Driving while impaired is extremely dangerous for you and everyone else on the road. With so many options for getting home safe there is no excuse for putting yourself or others at risk.”
Police said they’ve received more and more calls from residents who have noticed that licence plates are missing from their vehicles.
“RCMP would like to remind drivers to periodically check their vehicles to ensure the licence plate is securely attached to the vehicle and that the licence plate is a match to the vehicle," the release said.
Another alarming development is that catalytic convertors are being cut off of vehicles, even while they’re parked in driveways or on streets in front of residences.
Anyone noticing an impaired driver or theft in progress is encouraged to all 911.
