Town council appointed J.R. (Rick) McDonald of J.R. McDonald and Associates Inc. as Olds' interim CAO during its Oct. 24 meeting.
McDonald's appointment is effective from Oct. 24 to Jan. 24. He fills in for Norm McInnis, who departed to take the CAO job at the City of Fernie.
As the interim CAO, Mayor Judy Dahl said McDonald will not be eligible to apply for the permanent position.
"Council has asked that the ... interim CAO cannot apply for the position and the applications we received did know that was a condition," Dahl said.
She said the town received three applications for the job, which will be to support town staff as well as recruiting for a successor. Dahl adds she's confident that Olds is an attractive community and will receive strong applications.
Council approved an interim Memorandum of Agreement with Mountain View County as the two sides continue to negotiate a new deal for Intermunicipal Cooperation.
The current MOA, which dictates how the county pays the town in exchange for services, expires at the end of this year.
