OLDS — The Olds Hospital & Care Centre's New Year’s baby has arrived.
Lydia Star Jane Myre, the daughter of parents Tanis and Patrick of Innisfail and sister to two-year-old brother Ash, was born Jan. 2. at 8:50 a.m. in the Olds hospital. She weighed seven pounds, 11 ounces (3.48 kilograms).
Lydia was in a hurry to join the family.
She was born about two hours after her mom arrived at the hospital.
The next day, as the mother of the New Year’s baby, Tanis received a bevy gifts from representatives of the Olds Healthcare Fundraising Committee, Town of Olds and local gift shop Casa de Flores.
Unfortunately, Patrick and Ash weren’t able to be there when the gifts arrived because both were sick.
The Albertan asked Tanis why, as a resident of Innisfail, she had her baby in Olds.
“For my first, Ash, I went to Red Deer and I wanted a smaller facility (this time) so I picked Olds. I have a friend in Innisfail and she had her babies all in Olds and she loved it here, so I thought I’d try it too,” she said.
Tanis was asked if it was a good experience.
“It was, yeah; really good,” she said.
Tanis said she and Patrick plan to stop at two kids because they now have a boy and a girl.
“Typical family,” she said with a smile.
The births of Ash and Lydia were rather different.
Tanis said Ash was born after about three days of inducement and an emergency c-section. Lydia arrived in a couple of hours, although also via a c-section.
Tanis said one day later she’s “in a little bit of pain but pretty good overall.”
Lydia came into the world with a fair bit of hair. It’s said there’s a link between babies born with a lot of hair and their mothers having heartburn.
“I had major heartburn,” Tanis said with a laugh.
Once her one-year maternity leave is up Tanis plans to go back to her job working with people with disabilities. She said she really likes that job.
