The provincial government has confirmed that construction on the interchange of highways 2 and 27 in Olds will be happening this summer. The government stated in a media release that improvements will be made by removing the loops in the northwest and southeast corners of the interchange with straight-line on-ramps.
The on-ramps will lead to two new intersections at either end of the interchange.
The intersections won't have any traffic lights.
Left-turning traffic will have to yield to oncoming traffic, similar to the traffic at the Didsbury interchange.
The changes will eliminate the weaving that now takes place beneath the interchange where vehicles entering and exiting Highway 2 are using the same lane.
The province's long-term plans include replacing the interchange.
