OLDS – The Kiwanis Club of Olds is holding a contest to name an all-season structure that will be installed beside the outdoor rink in Centennial Park.

It will serve as a warming shack and a place to put on skates in the winter and change footwear for pickleball in the warmer months.

Tables and benches will be placed nearby for small gatherings and family skating parties.

Sidewalks will be installed to make the area accessible for disabled people as well as non-disabled people.

“This facility is the signature project in celebration of the 70th anniversary of the Kiwanis Club of Olds,” an announcement of the contest says.

The contest to name the structure is open to students ages 10-15.

The club says the name for the building should be short, include the name Kiwanis, be easy to pronounce, and to understand.

Names deemed to be inappropriate will be discarded, says Kiwanian Carol Johnson who is spearheading the project.

The prize for the winning entry is $100.

Entry forms can be picked up and dropped off at the Albertan offices at 5013 - 51 St. Olds or via [email protected].

The deadline for entries is July 15. The winning entry will be announced on July 19.

“I think it could be a lot of fun,” Johnson said during an interview.

“That was the idea behind it, first of all, to let people know that we're doing this and get Kiwanis out there and secondly, just to have some fun with the name.”
