Lots of donated items are coming in for the 52nd annual Olds Kiwanis Fall Auction, which takes place Thursday, Dec. 6 in the Olds Legion Banquet Room, starting at 6 p.m.

"Everybody's welcome. It's a good opportunity to pick up Christmas gifts," says co-ordinator Dale Mackie.

Mackie notes that members of Rosehill Auction Service donate their time toward the cause.

"They bring out a bunch of their auctioneers and really make the whole evening entertaining and fun," he says.

"We have beef on a bun as well for people who come right after work and there's coffee and a paid bar as well."

Proceeds from the auction go toward funding the many projects and programs the Kiwanis Club of Olds and District sponsors in town.

Those projects and programs include 4-H public speaking, Breakfast for Learners, soccer goals for the new athletic park, support for the scout and guide hall and maintenance of eight playgrounds throughout the town. They also support the Kiwanis music festival and entertainment at the TransCanada Theatre.

Mackie says lots of auction items are still coming in and he welcomes more.

He obtained one major one — seats in the Scotiabank suite for a Western Hockey League game in Calgary between the Hitmen and the Red Deer Rebels on Jan. 20.
