Major Olds construction projects near completion

Highway 27,70 Ave., roundabout should be completed by mid-November
olds-news

OLDS — Two major construction projects in Olds are expected to be completed by early to mid-November, according to acting operations director Doug Wagstaff.

In an email, Wagstaff said both projects -- installation of signal lights at the intersection of Highway 27 and 70th Avenue and construction of a roundabout at 68th Street south of the cemetery near Highway 2A -- are a bit behind schedule due to weather-related delays, but are each on budget.

This past spring, town council allocated $6.39 million for the roundabout project and $1.84 million for the work at Highway 27 and 70th Ave.

In his email, Wagstaff said the final lift of paving for this project was slated to be completed last week, weather permitting. Painting of lines was expected to follow.

Concrete was also being poured to create the bases that will hold pillars for the signal lights.

Those signal lights and related equipment are on schedule to arrive in town by the end of this month.

The lights are expected to be installed and fired up around the end of the first week of November.

Concrete work for this project is now complete and paving is expected to begin this week (Oct. 18).

Meanwhile, a detour in the area remains in effect, but if all goes well, that detour road should be removed by the end of October.

The project should be completed by the second week of November, although some finishing touches may not be finished until next year.

“Weather dependent, the only item foreseen that may be carried over into next year is some landscaping. The roads will all be completed and functional,” Wagstaff wrote.
