OLDS — Forty-one of the 57 designated supportive living (DSL) residents at the Seasons Encore retirement facility have received a COVID-19 vaccination, officials said.
That first round occurred on Jan. 4. The second round is slated to occur on Jan. 25.
"Our collaborative partnership with the (Alberta Health Services) mobile team made the vaccination roll-out at Seasons Olds Encore very efficient,” LeighAnne Voll, the chief operating officer of Seasons Retirement Communities said in a statement. “Our independent living residents are eager to participate."
Voll and Amanda White, the company’s senior director of marketing and communications, said all residents who were able to be vaccinated (provided consent in time) were able to receive the vaccinations.
It’s not known when residents of Seasons Olds, the company’s other retirement facility in Olds, will receive their shots.
“When we are given the green light, we will be ready,” White wrote in an email.
White said staff at Seasons Encore were not vaccinated at that time.
She and Voll said currently, staff who wish to obtain a vaccination must go to Red Deer, Camrose or Drumheller.
“Travelling to these locations is challenging for some staff; however, those that can access those sites are doing so," Voll said.
“We look forward to other vaccines becoming available so travel is not a barrier for our team members."
