Justice officials say an Olds man has been sentenced to 2 1/2 years in jail for alleged sex crimes against his then three-year-old daughter as well as making, publishing and distributing child pornography. The man was sentenced last month.
Justice officials say an Olds man has been sentenced to 2 1/2 years in jail for alleged sex crimes against his then three-year-old daughter as well as making, publishing and distributing child pornography.
The man was sentenced last month.
In addition to the jail term, he was hit with a $600 surcharge and received a 10-year firearm prohibition.
A court order banned publication of the name.
The man was first arrested Jan. 4 last year with help from Olds RCMP.
The case was investigated with help from the ALERT Internet Child Exploitation (ICE) unit. ALERT is a combined group to tackle serious and organized crime. It’s comprised of people from various police services around the province, including RCMP.
“It was during the forensic examination that an ICE digital forensic examiner noted photos that appeared to show the suspect’s daughter being sexually assaulted," an ALERT news release said.The man was arrested again on Jan. 13, 2018 at which time further charges were laid.Charges against the accused included sexual assault, sexual interference, sexual exploitation, making child pornography, possessing child pornography, accessing child pornography and distributing child pornography.
