A rural Olds resident is thanking town residents for finding and returning his debit card.

Vern Didyk, who lives on a farm near Olds, says he lost the card Thursday, Feb. 22.

"It must have fallen out of my hand outside the Scotiabank," he said.

"I headed back out to the farm and by the time I hit the farm – the farm is about 20 minutes from Olds -- the banker got ahold of me. I came back in, got my card," he added.

"You know what? You get to a point that all you hear about is bad all the time," Didyk said. "What I wanted to do is let somebody know that Olds is – there are a lot of good people there.

"Somebody brought it back into the bank. They could have just destroyed it or driven over it. It must have happened in their parking lot. I was there today and the bank got ahold of me. I was amazed at how fast (that happened)."

"I just wanted to thank whoever's out there who did that. You couldn't ask for better people," he added. "Very seldom do you see stuff like that."

Didyk and his wife moved to the Olds area from the Airdrie area because they feel that community is getting "too cluttered."

Dale Mackie, manager of the Olds Scotiabank was pleased to hear about Didyk's experience.

"I mean, that goes without saying," he said. "The people of Olds I think are pretty good people when it comes to stuff like that. It's one of those places where you could probably lose your wallet and still get it back."
