Medical event results in single-vehicle collision with power pole in Olds

Emergency crews were called to the scene at 12:41 p.m. RCMP say the lone male driver experienced a medical event, leading to the collision. As a result, no charges were laid. He was transported to hospital for observation.

OLDS — On May 18, Emergency crews responded to a single-vehicle collision with a power pole along 70th Avenue near 57th Street, west of Holy Trinity Catholic School. 

Olds RCMP Sgt. Greg Beach says the call came in at 12:41 p.m. 

“The vehicle involved was observed travelling at a high rate of speed before leaving the road and colliding with a power pole,” Beach wrote in an email.  

Beach said the collision was the result of the lone male driver “experiencing a medical event.” As a result, no charges were laid. 

He was taken to hospital for observation. 

Because of the impact with the power pole, FortisAlberta staff were called in to inspect and repair it.  

Flag people directed traffic in both directions to proceed slowly through the area.
