BOWDEN ñ Wayne Milaney is running for a fourth term as town councillor.

He made that announcement during an interview with the Albertan.

Milaney noted he is running to be a councillor again -- not running for mayor.

"There's already a competition for mayor," he said, noting Coun. Earl Wilson is running for that post, along with incumbent Robb Stuart, who has served as mayor for seven years and has been on council for 13.

Milaney, who says he's "closer to 70 than 75" years old, was asked if he's ever thought of running for mayor.

"I think we're in pretty good hands. And for a retired person ñ which I'm not ñ it's kind of a doable thing. But when you go full-time like I do, I don't think I could do justice to a mayoralty position," he said.

In addition to running a construction company, Milaney is playing a major role in construction of the new Bowden Community Hall. Construction of that $1.5-million facility is expected to be completed late this year.

"I'm the liaison between project consultants and the contractor to deliver the building on time and on budget," he said. "That's my role."

When asked why he's running again, Milaney said, "I enjoy contributing to the community."

"I always say it's more important to give than take. And you know, another saying I have is it's not what you take, it's what you leave," he said.

"In a small community, nobody does it for the money; like, there's nothing in it, so we just do it," Milaney added. "I think all of us that are on council -- and the mayor -- do it because we want our community to be taken care of.

"Certainly from a financial standpoint, we've been pretty successful with that. We've been able to balance the books every year."

Milaney noted he sits on the cemetery board, which looks after that facility in conjunction with public works employees. He enjoys doing so.
