OLDS — More security cameras are likely coming to Centennial Park as part of an effort to combat graffiti and other concerns, but not for at least a year, council has been told.
Coun. Wanda Blatz advocated for those cameras during an April 6 policies and priorities meeting.
She noted that in the town’s capital budget, maintenance of the skatepark was carried forward from last year.
She questioned if security cameras would be installed as part of that work or if the installation of cameras had been put off until the 2022 budget.
In addition, Blatz indicated that bathroom facilities in the park have not been re-opened.
She suggested if more security cameras were installed there “we would be able to leave those facilities open on a more regular basis.”
Chief administrative officer Michael Merritt confirmed that provision for more security cameras will be included in the town’s 2022 budget.
He said the idea is to create a business plan for camera installation.
“Centennial Park may require some digging or some linkage to a different area, from a different area, so that would all be part and parcel of a business case,” Merritt said.
