Move your vehicle after snowstorms or you may get a ticket

Some Olds vehicle owners appear to be ignoring warnings to move their vehicles so streets can be plowed

OLDS — Some vehicle owners appear to be ignoring warnings to move their vehicles so streets in town can be plowed after big snowstorms.

If they do so, they can receive warnings and/or tickets. Some have in the wake of the Dec. 22 snowstorm.

Town officials made that point during council’s Jan. 11 meeting.

Coun. Mary Jane Harper noted town staff kept encountering vehicles parked on streets and avenues despite the fact warnings had been issued that snow in their area was about to be plowed.

She cited College Way (50th Street) especially in east Olds, as one such place, saying some vehicle owners there appear to "totally ignore our signage.”

“Have we quit doing warnings and are we now ticketing those vehicles?" she asked.

Protective services director Justin Andrew and community services director Doug Wagstaff both said warnings and tickets are indeed still being given for vehicles that have not been moved.

“In brief conversation with our officers; that yes, they have been issuing violation tickets for vehicles that have not been removed, given the timing of the snow clearing signs,” Andrew said.

“I just pulled up and there are a number of warnings and just at a quick glance, at least a half dozen violations that were written with regards to snow removal and vehicles on the street,” Wagstaff said.

“So, there’s been both warnings and tickets issued, depending upon what the circumstances were behind them.”

Operations director Scott Chant said through social media and other platforms that town staff are asking people to temporarily park on avenues so streets can be plowed and so on.
